Re: Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion
The goal here was to test subsurface diffusion algorithms, not win a render contest!

Re: Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion
Very nice. Is that GPU or CPU rendering? I did another render with the addition of a reflection component, just for fun... The sphere is probably better treated as an actual volume rather than a diffuse translucent approximation, given how big the mean free path is... By the way, do you have diffuse...

Re: Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion
Hey Carsten, Very nice! Is this based on the diffusion approximation, or is this volume rendering? If the former, what is the diffusion profile? What was the render time? Some details about the appleseed render: I used a Normalized Diffusion profile; pure translucency, no BSDF (I should redo it with...

Re: Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion
Hey Dade, very cool, looking forward to the test.
appleseed doesn't support volume rendering yet. For subsurface scattering, we use the diffusion approximation and have implemented most of the standard diffusion profiles, old and new, with the highest care possible.

Re: Ideas request for a specific raytracing application
Hi, I was randomly browsing the forum when I stumbled upon this thread. Very interesting use case of raytracing. Since I'm the founder and one of the core developers of appleseed, I thought I could chime in. Yes, appleseed is first and foremost a (shared) raytracing library. There are complete C++ a...

Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion
Hi, Here is a render made with appleseed's upcoming raytraced subsurface scattering implementation: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/appleseedhq/appleseedhq.github.io/master/img/renders/sss-indirect.png https://raw.githubusercontent.com/appleseedhq/appleseedhq.github.io/master/img/renders/sss-indir...

Re: Improving Data Locality for Efficient In-Core Path Traci
Hey Jacco,
I'd be interested to get a copy of that paper as well, if you don't mind. Thanks!
Cheers,
Franz
