Beyond SVGF (master thesis)

Victor Voorhuis, a student at my university, just got his master's degree (cum laude) with a thesis on SVGF: https://www.projects.science.uu.nl/cs-gmt/index.php?r=project/view&id=92&title=beyond-spatiotemporal-variance-guided-filtering-temporally-stable-filtering-of-path-traced-reflections-i...

Re: DXR

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply!
Re: your reply: "Deformation" as in "refitting"? How many triangles can you rebuild per frame, and is this done on the GPU? And could you say something about the ray throughput of the system for average scenes (~100k tris or so)?

DXR

I've been reading some materials and watching videos on DXR over the past couple of days. Some observations: - The good looking demos use 3 or 4 Titan V's. - In all cases, it's rasterization as a basis with ray tracing effects added. - All motion is rigid, i.e. no acceleration structure reconstructi...

I am aware of his work, but I don't think he solved this issue, and in fact, I don't think it's possible.

Re: MIS with IBL

Out of curiosity, because it sounds like I'm doing something very similar and back when I was investigating it I saw no bias issues, what is the RIS trap? Is RIS conceptually flawed or is it a reoccurring 'gotcha' that you keep forgetting? I used RIS for my light sources in the past: out of e.g. 1k...

Re: MIS with IBL

You can easily test whether this indeed is the problem by using a light selection probability that is only a function of deterministically known things at the shading point (i.e. every time you land at this point you will compute the exact same light selection probability). That is indeed correct: ...
