Re: Indirect lighting through subsurface diffusion

I would love to see how other renderers (V-Ray, Arnold, RenderMan, Mitsuba, Cycles, LuxRender...) perform in this situation. I'm going to try to replicate the test with LuxRender (as soon as I find the time). This would give access to few test cases: Path tracing, BiDir, Path+Metropolis, BiDir+Metr...

Re: Looking for textures for material preview scene

LuxBall is available in Blender format from here: http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopi ... 13&t=10179

The geometry can be easily exported from Blender and the floor texture map is included.

Re: CPU (real time) raytracing references and articles?

Actually, when testing on our dual socket 16 core Xeon E5-2680, we see similar frame rates compared to the same implementation running on a GTX Titan. Well, I guess a dual socket 16 core Xeon E5-2680 is far more expansive than a single GTX Titan (even including the price of some kind of host CPU). ...

Re: LuxMark v3.0

Freezes and eventually crashes compiling kernels on scenes other than the simple one. This on linux with hd 5770 using whichever is the current fglrx for mint 17. CPU-side, the kernels compile. Drivers for old AMD VLIW GPUs seems to not receive updates and fixes anymore. You need a GCN GPU and Cata...

LuxMark v3.0

Introduction LuxMark is a OpenCL cross-platform benchmark tool and has become, over past years, one of the most used (if not the most used) OpenCL benchmark. It is intended as a promotional tool for LuxRender and it is now based on LuxCore , the LuxRender v2.x C++ or Python API available under Apac...

So you basically find the metric impractical but for the "local" case. Those slides (https://software.intel.com/sites/default/files/managed/b8/3f/Embree_pt_1_Building_Ray_Tracing_apps_woop.pdf) e.g. compare Embree and OptiX based on mrays/s. I really like Embree, I have recently introduce...

Re: mrays/s

Frankly, I have seen reported the most astronomical numbers about the supposed performance of some algorithm described in papers. Astronomical numbers that you than discover to require some once-in-1000-years moons alignment to be achieved ;) Short version: I totally ignore the reported numbers and ...
