Re: Ph.D. thesis

I don't understand. If Timo Aila's work is the state of the art of gpu ray tracing, then why don't dicuss that in the thesis, instead talk about path regeneration and stream path tracing??

Re: Path Space Regularization

I am very interested in this.

So what's the conclusion? is this method better than BDPT? VCM? SPPM?

Re: Question about BDPT with pinhole camera model.

BTW, VCM seems like a very great GI algorithm! Is it the current state of the ait, out performing SPPM, MLT? It definitely outperforms SPPM, but not necessarily MLT. The last path space regularization paper of Anton Kaplanyan shows a kitchen scene where MLT can outperform VCM. It's a rather extreme...

Re: Just found an incredible real-time ray tracing demo.

Is it using any global illumination?

I think the depth of field effect is faked with directX.

And I don't think it's using global illumination, but I don't understand why the shadow of those gems have color, and no caustics.

I solved the problem. The fresnel was wrong.

Just found an incredible real-time ray tracing demo.

OMG it's so amazing, and it's really real-time. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=pm85W-f7xuk Demo download: http://www.rigidgems.sakura.ne.jp/index.html I guess it's fast because it contains only specular material. But still, what a demo! It's a shame that it's not open s...

Does my refraction look correct?

I have uploaded 2 images rendered with path tracing. And there are some glass material with eta 1.5, that's glass. I am not sure are they correct. This one has a lot of dark areas on the bunny. glass1.jpg The one has a lot of darkness on the venus too. Is this caused by total reflection? glass2.jpg

Re: Question about BDPT with pinhole camera model.

If we don't have a intersectable camera, does it mean we don't sample the first vertex of the eye subpath on the lens, and instead by shooting a ray and take the first intersection as the 1st eye vertex? Isn't the intersectable camera used when you trace the light path to check if the path hits the...
