Re: giga rays on intel phi

ray distribution tests in outside environments: AO rays with around 720mrays/s (tracing 16rays per octant together) http://s9.postimg.org/hd8089b8r/r8_ao.jpg Diff. bounces (depth 8) with around 490mrays/s http://s9.postimg.org/tqkuf60x7/r8_diff.jpg for scenes like that ao even looks better to me, mp.

regular cpu replacement (look for kinghts landing/14nm broadwell roadmap, end 2014,1q 2015).
i know two upcoming top10 supercomputers that will use these cpus without pci-e accl.

Re: giga rays on intel phi

yes, we plan to have 5-6grays. if needed we will use 4 or more mics/gpus per system but just for comparision. the final architecture will be based on tensilica procs (why ever, i dont judge this). to be competitive i have to see what current mass-market components can do and extrapolate this into th...

Re: giga rays on intel phi

@graphicsman: not yet. more "in-deep" test for any kind if distribution will come in the next weeks. just ordered a titan to see and compare different scenarios. pt results as soon as it arrives. this is a nice research project. we have to build a system that can trace 256 rays/pixel@1080p > 10fps f...

giga rays on intel phi

Image

hallo, we just released our tracing kernels for intel phi. enclosed a simple test scene. it runs at
1.2 grays/s on latest 7xxx series ! btw: it is also around 2x faster than intels embree 2.0.

Re: Xeon Phi benchmarks

regarding the presentation they just compare against their own implementations. we see 2x more rays/s for coherent transport on phi compared to embree 2 and 1.1-1.25x for incoherent rays. phi compared to intels latest servers is in the range of 2x, so that a dual socket server is around as fast as p...

Re: Is it still worth it to do CPU SIMD ray tracing?

as we will have 16wide vector units today/soon on the cpu, you have to ! without you
throw away too much compute power. since the gpu-hype, people totally lost track on the latest development
in in-coherent ray transport on wide vetcor units. embree isnt the best example here.

Re: HLBVH performance etc.

i am following this gpu construction crap since years. nice research, nothing more.
the (long promised) implementations were always far away from the paper results,
