Re: giga rays on intel phi

regular cpu replacement (look for kinghts landing/14nm broadwell roadmap, end 2014,1q 2015). i know two upcoming top10 supercomputers that will use these cpus without pci-e accl. Interesting, does anyone know if Xeon Phi has some kind memory/cache coherency support in order to share a single pool o...

Re: LuxVR: Virtual Reality with LuxRender (and OpenCL)

That is all kinds of awesome. I wonder though - what does the progressive update feel like when you're actually using it with a Rift? Must be a slightly crazy experience :D Yes, you need some kind of automatic Camera locking and/or user controlled locking. Another possible option would be to use so...

Re: Ray Tracing is the Future and ever will be

I think the real problem at this stage is that path tracing is not enough; you really have to have more advanced algorithms in the face of "hard" scenes. In my opinion, path tracing is enough for the game market and NVIDIA and any other major vendors are likely to be mostly interested to that marke...

Re: Ray Tracing is the Future and ever will be

In one presentation at SIGGRAPH (http://on-demand.gputechconf.com/siggraph/2013/presentation/SG3106-Building-Ray-Tracing-Applications-OptiX.pdf), NVIDIA implies that there is an upcoming version that might address this. One slide for enhancements in a future version of Optix cites performance enhan...

Re: LuxVR: Virtual Reality with LuxRender (and OpenCL)

I have uploaded a demo video of LuxVR working with Oculus Rift HMD (http://www.oculusvr.com): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiW24tahE7I

P.S. indeed, the video is supposed to be seen fullscreen with Oculus Rift HMD.

Re: How to flatten a binary bvh to 4ary BVH?

It is not clear on how to flatten a normal bvh into a qBVH. It says discard nodes in the even layers, but what if the even layer is leaf node? We simply create 2 leaf nodes and let the other 2 children be empty?? In case you need an example of implementation, LuxRender has one: http://src.luxrender...

Re: Ray Tracing is the Future and ever will be

Improving Coherence for Path Tracing Very interesting reading, it is just my impression or NVIDIA has done 180 turn: wasn't Optix kernel written has a single huge kernel before ? Not that I don't agree with the content of the presentation, I have written Path tracing kernels (mostly) in the same wa...

Re: OpenCL 2.0 specs released

Does "shared virtual memory" mean what I think it does? This has some pretty important implications for hardware features... How will discrete boards support this? The shared memory concept seems heavily bound to AMD APUs, Intel new CPU/GPU, etc. (i.e. to moving the GPU on the CPU side of the PCIe ...
