Re: Haswell benchmarks show up

Embree only supports binary and quad bvh's? I only see code for bvh2 and bvh4 in the rtcore directory and the README.txt says Sorry, it wasn't Embree: http://ompf2.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=45&p=266&hilit=avx+embree#p257 Thanks for making this clear. I guess AVX2, which Haswell supports, ...

Re: Haswell benchmarks show up

Regarding AVX, creating 8-ary bvh's might be interesting where one ray is intersected with 8 bounding boxes during intersection. It is a features already available in Intel Embree and, according the authors, the speed up is quite small: something in the 10%-25% range. Embree only supports binary an...

Haswell benchmarks show up

Haswell benchmarked on Cycles and 3ds Max. Hardly any speedup over Ivy Bridge and definitively not worth upgrading. Remarkable that cpu performance seems to have basically flatted out from one generation to the next.

Re: Ph.D. thesis

I don't understand. If Timo Aila's work is the state of the art of gpu ray tracing, then why don't dicuss that in the thesis, instead talk about path regeneration and stream path tracing?? It never was the state of the art(or for a short time until Fermi came out). Even they themselves didn't use t...

Re: tbp

Maybe he understood real-time gi will never happen so he just dissapeared ... Rather strange he suddenly just gave up on the old ompf board, it used to be the best resource for raytracing ever. Everybody got his email address when they signed up for the old ompf board, someone could just send him an...

Re: Intel Xeon Phi Preferred Pricing - Only $400 per Card ?

There is a news article the card will be generally available on the 28th of january. Its price seems too high for ray tracing imho and I would wait and see some optimized benchmarks on diffuse rays first before buying it. The embree guys should be working on a xeon phi implementation.

Re: SmallLuxGPU v3.0 Preview Video

Great video. I noticed SLG3 is more focused on cpu rendering rather than gpu rendering. I guess it is hard to implement bidrectional pathtracing and vertex merging on the gpu? Not exactly, it just easier to first write a C++ version and than port the code to OpenCL C. GPU debugging can give me a lo...
