You need the forum, but the forum also needs you! We've decided to get a new domain name for it, and we want to hear your suggestions. First, we will collect a few candidate names, and then we'll vote and register the most popular one.

The top-level domain, e.g. .com, .net, .org, can be picked by availability. The preferred one seems to be .org, then probably .com, and then .net.

I personally would like a name that is short and easy to remember, and that also sounds nice in an "analog" conversation. For example "Did you see that thread on raytalk...?"

that's the last one i'd choose. the only reason is for remembering the old one. other than that, it's a stupid name that doesn't help anyone. no info what this page is about, etc. i know, it's cool to be an elite tiny group. but i prefer to be a proper, professional group that creates and collects knowledge for everyone.

My son's Latin teacher (that would be me ) prefers rtfora to rtforums, but both have the problem of having 4 syllables. Raytalk rolls off the tongue more easily. Raydev is almost as good.

I agree,

"renderdev" will be great, because :
- render : it is more generic than "ray", "photon" etc... it can be applied to any kind of rendering techno, like game related one.
- dev : because, finally... it is the goal

There are already other rendering forums (fora), and ompf has always been more ray tracing oriented (although certainly digressions into other algorithms has not, and should not be disallowed). Therefore, I prefer raydev. rtdev seems good as well. As for .org vs .com vs .net, I'd say first .org, then .net. Maybe I'd also choose .xxx before .com, due to the scandalous nature of our rt discussions Dunno, .com seems wrong to me for this forum.

So far, my preference goes to "raytalk".

Generally speaking, "rt", to me, has a Whitted style rendering conotation and I think we are all going beyond that now so I would avoid using "rt" or "raytracing" in a new forum name for that reason.

"path" along with "pt" seem more general, more modern, and more in line with what we are all doing now and in the relatively near future.

So add "pathtalk", "pttalk", "pathagora" from me in the suggested names list. I like the prononciation of "pathagora" -> "patagora". It has a nice rythm in it and well represents the purpose of the forum. "rayagora" doesn't sound bad either.
